Hello children, years ago I read the biography of the most amazing man and his equally amazing mother, “Gifted Hands” He’s known to be the foremost pediatric neurosurgeon in America (or even in the world). The first surgeon ever to successfully separate twins conjoined in the head -truly he has “gifted hands.” Does this story ring a bell? Do you know this man? Have you heard his name? Let’s meet him…
Benjamin Solomon Carson Sr. (born September 18, 1951) is an American neurosurgeon, author, politician and the 17th and current United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Born in Detroit, Michigan and a graduate of Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School, Carson has authored numerous books on his medical career and political stance. He was the subject of a television drama film in 2009.
While growing up he went through so much rejections and oppressions but he never gave up, he strived and managed to be on top, proving to everyone that he could really make it (especially those who called him “dummy”). His success story is incomplete without giving credit to his mother, who apparently could not read herself but forced her children to read a book a week and write a report for her. She helped Carson discover his talent within.
Dr. Benjamin Carson is the real deal and a great example for children to emulate and that is why he’s our hero for the week!
